Norfolk Bank Holiday Plan B: Four Ideas For Rain, Heat Or A Full Car |
From Norwich Castle to Holkham Hall, these Norfolk day-out backups cover different budgets, weather problems and family needs. |

The Bank Holiday forecast has stopped looking like a safe bet for a full day outdoors.
The Met Office is warning of an unsettled weekend around Norfolk, with showers and possible thunder.
So before the picnic, beach trip or woodland walk gets washed out, pick a Plan B that fits the problem.
For a proper rainy-day reset, head to Norwich Castle.
It’s central, open daily from 10am to 5pm, and gives you museums and galleries under one roof.
That makes it easier than gambling on a soggy outdoor attraction, especially if your group includes people who want different things.
Check the online prices before setting off, and look at the access information if anyone in your party needs step-free routes.
If you’re on the west coast, SEA LIFE Hunstanton is the obvious indoor-heavy switch.
It has indoor and outdoor areas, but the timed-entry system means booking ahead is a good idea on a busy Bank Holiday.
The operator also has rescheduling arrangements, so check the live ticket page rather than assuming you can turn up and sort it out.
Travelling with children who still need to burn off energy? ROARR! at Lenwade has the Dinomite Indoor Adventure Play Area alongside its outdoor attractions.
It’s a better match for a mixed forecast than a day built around one ride or one playground.
The catch is that some rides depend on the weather, so check the colour-coded opening calendar and final activity availability before you leave. There’s on-site parking.
For a day that can bend with the weather, Holkham Hall is the most flexible option here.
You can use the parkland, woodland play and walled garden if the skies behave, then switch to the Hall or Holkham Stories if they don’t.
The Hall is scheduled to open from 10am to 4pm on Mondays, Thursdays and Sundays until 29 October 2026.
Parking is £6.50 a day, with advance booking available.
There isn’t one perfect Norfolk backup. Indoor venues can fill up and cost more than the original plan; outdoor places can be brilliant in a shower and miserable in strong wind or heat.
Save the option nearest your route, then check its live opening and booking page before you set off.
